Meditation group at Potosi

Meditation Program teaches

  • Skills and discipline of quieting mind/body
  • Impulse control
  • Greater understanding of behaviors that perpetuate violence
  • Alternatives to violence.
  • Mindful living.

Achieving Your Potential, a cognitive/ behavioral change program designed by The Pacific Institute for prisoners, reinforces concepts learned in meditation and teaches and motivates participants to

  • Identify and change dysfunctional and criminal thinking and behavior
  • Change negative beliefs about themselves, others and society
  • Become more effective and comfortable in dealing with others
  • Set and achieve goals.

Re-entry Services provide newly-released participants

  • Help with basic needs
  • Links to support groups and housing and employment opportunities.

POTOSI CORRECTIONAL CENTER PROGRAMS

GED Program (eliminated at PCC by state budget cuts) enables students to

  • Become more aware of their intelligence
  • Increase their skills in reading, writing, and math
  • Earn their GEDs
  • Share their knowledge with others.

Adult Basic Education and ESL for students who need basic literacy skills or a knowledge of English as another language.


Continuing Ed Program for students who have completed high school or a GED, provides introductory courses in subjects chosen by the students themselves, such as Ethics, Literature, Economics, Intro to Psychology, Intro to Communication, Managing Conflict.

Ad-Seg Program for prisoners in solitary confinement and/or administrative segregation (ad-seg) to assist them in transitioning into communal housing units.  Students learn:

  • Mindfulness-based stress management
  • Anger management
  • Cognitive behavioral change.
